Saturday`s Premier Division South Round-Up

Only Weston-super-Mare and Truro City remain unbeaten in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South following Saturday’s results.

Weston inflicted a 7-0 hammering on a yet-to-win Harrow Borough at the Optima Stadium, while Truro beat another team yet to record a win, Hendon, 4-1 at Bolitho Park.

Dayle Grubb gave the Seagulls an early 5th-minute lead from the penalty spot and then Harrow were really up against it when they had Shaun Preddie shown a straight red card with only 12 minutes gone on the clock – Grubb converting his second spot-kick following the foul.

The crowd of 701 saw James Dodd add a third on 27 minutes and leave the scoreline 3-0 at the break.

But the tiring Boro side conceded four more in the second half from Marlon Jackson after 54 minutes, Ben Griffith with a brace on 77 and 78 minutes and then Elis Watts 10 minutes from time.

Truro got off to a great start as Jack Rice-Lethaby put them in front after less than 3 minutes.

Shane White added a second after 35 minutes and Tyler Harvey a third just after half-time.

Kyle Egan made it 4-0 with 71 minutes gone on the clock, with a Joe White penalty 6 minutes later being all the Greens could muster in response.

Losing for the first time this season to date on Saturday were newly promoted Bracknell Town, beaten 3-0 at the SB Stadium by neighbours Chesham United.

After a goalless opening half, Shaquille Hippolyte-Patrick broke the deadlock to give the Generals the lead just past the hour-mark.

Karl Oliyide doubled Chesham’s advantage 7 minutes later and the same player made the points safe in the last minute of normal time to earn the visitors their third win.

As well as Harrow and Hendon, newly promoted Plymouth Parkway are also still yet to record a win in 2022/23.

Tipped by many (including this writer!) to do well this season, Parkway were on the wrong end of a 5-1 hammering at Privett Park by Gosport Borough in front of 690.

Gosport’s third win to date came courtesy of goals from Dan Wooden after 18 minutes – 11 minutes after Jack Crago had given Parkway the lead – and then a Mat Paterson brace after 58 and 65 minutes, Kyal Williams in the 89th minute and then a Bradley Tarbuck penalty in stoppage time.

Another newly promoted side, Hanwell Town, and Dorchester Town both secured their fourth wins from five games.

Hanwell edged out Tiverton Town 1-0 at Reynolds Field, thanks to a Conrad Lucan goal in first half injury-time.

The Magpies beat Hartley Wintney 4-2 at the Avenue Stadium.

Three players recorded braces in this game – Olaf Koszela on 2 and 56 minutes and Shaquille Gwengwe on 62 and 82 minutes for the hosts and Harry Cooksley in the 16th minute from the spot and then in the 88th minute for the Row.

Salisbury picked up their third win by beating Swindon Supermarine 2-1 at the Ray Mac.

A Brandon Goodship penalty gave the Whites a 16th-minute lead that Antonio Diaz doubled 4 minutes into the second half.

Harry Williams managed to reduce the deficit but not until 3 minutes into stoppage time.

Saturday also saw Poole Town record a second three-point haul in winning 2-1 at the Met Coaches Stadium against Merthyr Town, who have now lost three.

The Dolphins had to come back from being an 18th-minute Kieran Evans goal down to win, thanks to Jack Dickson after 25 minutes and Josh Carmichael on 69 minutes.

The day’s other three matches all ended in draws.

Hayes & Yeading United shared a 2-2 draw with Beaconsfield Town at the SKYex Community Stadium.

Cole Brown struck first to give the hosts a 21st-minute lead that Nathan Minhas cancelled out after 35 minutes.

Six minutes later, Dan Wishart restored the home side’s lead, only for the other Minhas, Aaron, to equalise 6 minutes after the break.

Newly promoted Winchester City picked up their fifth point of the campaign to date with a 1-1 home draw with Metropolitan Police, whose Harry Taylor gave them the boost of an early 4th-minute lead.

Alex MacAllister levelled for the Citizens a minute before half-time.

And at Eynsham Park, newly promoted North Leigh grabbed a stoppage-time equaliser to share the spoils in a 3-3 thriller with Yate Town.

New signing Mitch Parker gave the Millers a 24th-minute lead from the penalty spot, only for Brandon Smalley to level seconds before half-time.

Levi Steele restored the home side’s lead just before the hour-mark and that looked like being a winner until Ben Hammett popped up with an 88th-minute equaliser for the Bluebells.

And then as added time ticked in, Joe Tumelty looked to have won it for Yate – only for Jenson Wright to grab North Leigh’s leveller 2 minutes later.
