The Seagulls warmed up nicely for their Emirates FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round tie against Vanarama National League side Barnet, although it took them 56 minutes to break down a Magpies side who could have moved into the top five if they had won.

It was Marlon Jackson who opened the scoring for Weston and then 9 minutes later, Dayle Grubb made it 2-0.

Victory was assured in the 77th minute with a third from Scott Laird.

Overnight leaders Truro City, however, have the opportunity to re-take top spot when they host Swindon Supermarine on Wednesday evening.

Third-placed Chesham United lost ground though as they were beaten 2-1 at Earlsmead by Harrow Borough.

The hosts took a 26th-minute lead through Kai Brosnan and the same player, crucially, doubled Boro’s lead right on the stroke of half-time.

Sometimes, 2-0 leads can be awkward, but, although the Generals pulled one back through Jordan Gibbons in the 57th minute, Steve Baker’s side held firm for three big points that lifted them up to 16th in the table.

Hanwell Town moved level on points with Chesham in fourth after they edged a 3-2 derby win against Hayes & Yeading United at The Powerday Stadium.

In front of a best-of-the-season crowd of 457, the Geordies took a 33rd-minute lead through Matt McKenzie.

And then 7 minutes later, Kain Adam doubled the home side’s advantage.

But 4 minutes into first-half injury-time, Moses Emmanuel pulled the visitors back into the game.

On 69 minutes, Hayes & Yeading were level with a second for Emmanuel and a draw looked on the cards – until Shomari Barnwell popped up to net a fine winner for Hanwell in the 89th minute.

Poole Town moved into the top five but could only manage a point at the BlackGold Stadium against Bracknell Town in a dramatic game.

Bracknell, another side who could be forgiven for having their minds on their FA Cup tie against Banbury United on Saturday, looked dead and buried when Jake Andrews made it 2-0 to the Dolphins in the 89th minute, having led since the 9th minute, courtesy of a Toby Holmes effort.

Jack Dean’s header from a corner 3 minutes into stoppage time looked like just being a consolation for the Robins.

But 3 minutes further into added time, another corner led to on-loan Liam Ferdinand poking home the dramatic equaliser!

Plymouth Parkway sunk to the bottom of the table after they suffered a 4-0 defeat at the South West Interiors Stadium by a Yate Town side who had been bottom at start of play.

Yate, who hadn’t won in the league since the opening day of the season, took a 22nd-minute lead through Alex Lambert.

A Joe Tumelty penalty then doubled the Bluebells` lead in the 32nd minute.

Immediately after the break, Lambert made it 3-0 to the hosts and on 74 minutes, Pierce Mitchell ensured the points were safe for Yate with a fourth.

Hartley Wintney remain third-from-bottom after going down to a 2-1 defeat at the Charters Community Stadium against a Winchester City side who climbed out of the bottom four as a consequence of the three points.

City took a 23rd-minute lead when Josh Bertie was adjudged to have been fouled in the box and Warren Bentley duly converted the resulting penalty.

Six minutes later, City doubled their lead with a Bentley header.

But on 39 minutes, The Row were back in the game when new signing Antonio Dembele was brought down in the area and Matt Drage reduced the deficit from the spot.

The second half saw the visitors have the lion's share of the play but were unable to find a leveller.

Metropolitan Police returned to winning ways and into seventh spot – above visitors Gosport Borough – after a 2-1 Imber Court victory.

Louis Birch gave the Met a 15th-minute lead they held until 8 minutes into the second half when Dan Wooden pulled Boro back on level terms.

Twenty minutes from time, Jasper Mather restored the Met’s lead – a lead they held on to.

Merthyr Town – another side in FA Cup action on Saturday – warmed up nicely for their tie against Isthmian League Premier Division side Folkestone Invicta with a 2-0 win at Eynsham Park against North Leigh.

The Martyrs` first visit to the Oxfordshire village saw them take time to break down their hosts and it wasn’t until the 52nd minute that the first goal arrived via a Ricardo Rees penalty after a foul by Jordan Alves.

Then at 77 minutes, Merthyr sealed victory with a second from Alex John.

The Martyrs are now ninth in the table.
