Taking a closer look at…..Harrow Borough.

Who are the new faces at Earlsmead.

Steve Baker, manager of Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Division South club Harrow Borough, obtained his first win when his side beat league rivals Beaconsfield Town in the Emirates FA Cup on Monday night.

Harrow had started the new campaign with a 1-0 defeat at title favourites Truro City last Saturday, although they pushed the White Tigers all the way until conceding a 73rd-minute goal which proved to be the winner.

Making his debut in goal for Boro was teenager Matt Hall, who has joined the club on loan from Premier League Southampton`s famed academy set-up.

And Baker (left) made several other new signings in the summer, including the player who bagged both of the goals that knocked Beaconsfield out of the cup, Liam Ferdinand (right).

The forward made the step up to the Vanarama National League South with Hungerford Town in July 2019, joining from Isthmian League South Central side Bracknell Town.

He ended the 2018/19 season as top scorer in the division with 32 goals having re-joined the Robins in the summer of 2018 from Thatcham Town.

He was previously with Marlow and Binfield and represented the FA in an ambassadorial visit to the Falkland Islands in November 2018.

Ferdinand is joined at Earlsmead by his former Hungerford team-mate Baboucarr Jarra, known simply as `Babs`.

The 28-year-old joined the Crusaders in early December 2019 from Southern Division One South club Cirencester Town, where he had been since the beginning of December 2018 before switching to Southern Division One Central outfit Thame United in March 2020, although his spell with them was cut short due to the pandemic.

Jarra enjoyed an exceptional 2018. He won the FA Vase while with Thatcham and won the man of the match award at Wembley.

He joined Cirencester from Swindon Supermarine, having also previously been with AFC Hayes, Flackwell Heath, Windsor FC, Chalfont St Peter and Aylesbury.

Also moving back to Harrow from Hungerford is highly rated midfielder Kensley Maloney.

Maloney had only joined the Crusaders in June from Isthmian South Central side Westfield, who he had signed for in February 2020 from league rivals Bracknell Town where had returned to in November 2019.

He had signed for the Robins from Harrow – his first spell at Earlsmead starting in July 2019 having joined from Bracknell.

His other previous clubs include Marlow, Burnham and Slough Town.

Baker also added three young players to his squad in Dan Purdue, Ben Tricker and Sam Gubbins.

Purdue is a goalkeeper who joins from National League South outfit Hampton & Richmond Borough, where he had been since January 2020.

He was with Hendon as a youth and was called up to make a handful of first team appearances for the Greens in 2017/18.

He followed several other Hendon youngsters to Isthmian South Central side Chalfont St Peter in the summer of 2019 and spent the latter part of 2019/20 on dual registration with Isthmian South East side Burgess Hill Town.

Tricker is a 19-year-old centre-back who started his career with Watford, progressing to their under-18s before being released at the end of the 2018/19 season.

He moved to Fulham where he appeared in the Cottagers` under-23s.

Holding midfielder Gubbins was handed a chance by Baker after impressing with his Imperial College team.

Unfortunately, Gubbins received a nasty injury in the defeat at Truro.
