Daventry Town made it two wins from their opening two games in the Pitching In Southern Football League Division One Central on Tuesday night.

The Northamptonshire side secured a 1-0 win at Hillgrounds to push hosts Kempston Rovers to the foot of the early table with two defeats in their two league matches.

Dan Childs scored the only goal of the game just shy of the hour-mark.

There were first wins for AFC Dunstable and Welwyn Garden City.

AFC`s Jervon Campbell is already proving a good summer recruit and it was his early goal after just 7 minutes at Creasey Park that eventually proved enough to condemn Didcot Town to their first defeat after two league wins.

The Citizens also inflicted a first defeat on Biggleswade FC in a 3-0 success at Herns Lane.

George Ironton – son of manager Nicky – opened City`s account after 25 minutes.

But it wasn`t until 12 minutes from time that Elliot Bailey doubled the home side`s score.

A second for Ironton in time added on at the end of the game made it a comfortable win for the hosts.

North Leigh have drawn both of their league games after sharing a 0-0 draw with Thame United at Eynsham Park, while Bedworth United moved to the top of the fledgling table after beating Barton Rovers by the odd goal in seven at the Oval.

Rovers, who had won one and drawn one of their previous two games, found themselves 2-0 down by the half-hour mark to goals from Mitch Piggon and Elliot Parrott.

However, a brace from summer recruit from Kempston Rovers, Nathan Tshikuna, pulled Barton level, only for Piggon to net his second right on half-time to take the hosts into the break 3-2 up.

Sam Walton made it 4-2 in the 64th minute, but Barton made it a nervy finale when Chris Regis reduced the deficit to one with 6 minutes remaining.

Bedford Town`s new boss Gary Setchell obtained his first point from a 1-1 draw at the New Eyrie against Berkhamsted, who have now drawn both of their matches.

And Berko got off to a great start when Lewis Toomey reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box to make it 1-0 after less than 2 minutes.

Dan Walker took only 6 minutes to equalise – and from a lot further out as his 25-yard effort beat Xavi Comas Leon in the Berko goal.
