Monday night saw the first postponement of the new 2020/21 season due to weather conditions.

The torrential rain over the previous two or three days saw the Pitching In Southern Football League Premier Division game between Hitchin Town and current leaders Needham Market fall foul of a waterlogged pitch at Top Field.

However, the match between Evesham United and Larkhall Athletic in Division One South did manage to beat the weather at the Spier & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium.

On Saturday, Evesham were knocked out of the Emirates FA Cup by Southern Premier Division Central side Tamworth, while the Larks progressed courtesy of a penalty shoot-out win at league rivals Frome Town.

But both were looking for a first win in the league campaign.

And it was the visitors who settled better and had chances to take the lead before they eventually did so in the 38th minute when Alex Lambert cut in from the right and fired past Evesham `keeper Lewis Clayton from an angle.

The second half was a fairly even contest, but the visitors had a great chance to seal victory when they were awarded a penalty for a foul on Bradley Norris.

It was the victim who got up to take the spot-kick but saw Clayton dive to his left and parry his effort away superbly.

But the Larks held firm to record their first three-point haul.
