Focus On…..Tim Dixon

Series continues on players who have spent some of their careers as a player or manager in the Southern League.

Tim Dixon became a `legend` with his home-town club which must make it even more satisfying.

He was born in Dover, but it was with Southampton under Lawrie McMenemy where his playing career began.

He spent three years at The Dell without managing to break into the first team and, after a short spell training with Crystal Palace, he had the opportunity to join League of Ireland outfit Waterford United.

He played just over a season for the club and earned a League Cup winner`s medal after beating Finn Harps.

After a brief period with Finnish side Tsepi 78, he signed for his home-town club Dover Athletic, then members of the Southern League South Division.

And he went on to play for ten seasons at Crabble, helping them gain promotion to the Southern Premier Division in 1987/88 and then to the Conference in 1992/93.

Dixon broke his leg twice, as well as his ankle and after an ACL injury, he was no longer able to play at that level, so he moved on to play for Folkestone Invicta, then in the Kent League.

Between 1998 and 2000 he turned out for Ramsgate, also in the Kent League and helped the Rams to win the league and the Kent Senior Trophy in 1999 and then finished his playing with Snowdown.

After a spell on Dover`s coaching team during Andy Hessenthaler`s first spell as manager in 2007, in April 2012 he was appointed as manager of Ramsgate in April 2012 until February 2014 and then took the helm at fellow Isthmian South side Hythe Town in May 2014.

He departed the Cannons in September 2015 and is currently assistant manager at Isthmian South East outfit Herne Bay.
