Jack Gibbs with Nick Ironton
Nick Ironton, manager of Pitching In Southern Football League Division One Central club Welwyn Garden City, has announced the signing of Jack Gibbs from Essex Senior League side Hoddesdon Town.
Midfielder Gibbs came through the youth team at Hoddesdon and skippered the under-18s.
He made his first-team debut in October 2019 and made a total of 42 appearances for the Lowfield outfit, scoring 7 goals.
Gibbs follows his former Hoddesdon team-mate, forward Cyrus Babaie, who made the same move last week.
Meanwhile, Ironton was delighted to see defender Jonny Sexton commit for the 2021/22 campaign.
The full-back has made over 100 appearances for the club and has been a vital player for the Citizens in recent seasons.
The 28-year-old re-joined City in December 2019 having only left a month earlier to join league rivals Berkhamsted.
He originally joined the Citizens in 2017 and was of the three players who stayed at the club after former manager Adam Fisher left in January 2019 and won the supporters` player of the year award for 2018/19.
He was previously with Potters Bar Town and Cockfosters.
The 2018/19 player of the season, Matty Campbell-Mhlope, has also re-signed for Ironton’s squad.
The 22-year-old winger signed for City in early March 2020 from Kings Langley, who he had joined in October 2019 from then-Southern Premier Division Central rivals Stratford Town.
He started his career rising through the West Ham United youth system until the age of 16, when he moved to Millwall where he spent two years.
Upon his release from the New Den in December 2017 he joined National League South side Hemel Hempstead Town.
In January 2018 he moved to Farnborough and had trials with Crystal Palace and Cardiff City and then switched to Staines Town in November 2018.
Another move in February 2019, this time to City, followed before he joined Kings Langley in the summer of 2019.
Greg Adinna is another to have re-signed for the Citizens for the upcoming season.
The lively 21-year-old forward re-joined City in September 2020.
The former Barnet youngster played a handful of games in the first team in 2019/20 but has had a tough couple of years with injury but enjoyed a run out with the the club`s under-23s during the end of season friendlies and impressed.
And much-travelled striker Elliot Bailey has also committed to another season with the Citizens.
The 26-year-old returned to City in September 2019 from Hertford Town.
He had been with the Citizens in 2018/19, scoring 5 times in 12 games in the second half of the campaign but left during the summer of 2019 for a second stint at Hertford.
He started out at St Albans City and after leaving Clarence Park in 2014, took in stops of varying length with Berkhamsted, Arlesey Town, London Colney, Dunstable Town, Barton Rovers, Ware and Hitchin Town.
