A good Friday evening crowd of 353 at The Eyrie saw Bedford Town record their fourth win out of five in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central.
However, it was a far-from-easy 3-2 success against one of new boys, Hertford Town, who have yet to record a win in their first five league outings.
But it was the youthful visitors who took an early 4th-minute lead when Obe Ogbonna beat Eagles` keeper Alex Street from close range.
It took a further 24 minutes for the hosts to pull back on level terms when striker Rene Howe headed past Hertford`s number one, Luke Mewitt.
It was the visitors though who took a 2-1 lead into half-time when Ogbonna grabbed his second of the evening on 37 minutes.
After an interval `discussion`, Bedford came out all guns blazing and were level within 4 minutes with a strike from Danny Setchell, son of manager Gary.
Then, on 67 minutes, Bedford took the lead for the first time with a goal from Connor Tomlinson, who had come on to replace former Peterborough United star Craig Mackail-Smith in the 54th minute.
Mewitt made a terrific save from a Setchell free-kick to keep Hertford in the game and then 10 minutes from time, Bedford had forward Dan Walker dismissed.
Hertford were kept at bay by the ten-men and then by the nine-men as Howe received two yellow cards within 2 minutes of each other to find himself joining Walker in the dressing room.
Bedford held firm though to end an entertaining evening for the Friday crowd.
