Included in Chesham United`s 2-1 win at Wimborne Town in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Division South on Saturday were two new signings in Jaden Thompson-Brissett and Yasin Ben El-Mhanni.
Thompson-Brissett is a 20-year-old winger who joins the Generals after a short break from the game after being released by Vanarama National League side Dagenham & Redbridge in January.
The left-sided attacker played for Brentford’s B team from January 2019 until October 2020, scoring 15 times in 24 outings.
Prior to that he played for Woodford Town in the Essex Senior League and spent time with Norwich City academy and also gained experience in the National League with Maidenhead United.
Twenty-five-year-old El-Mhanni, born and raised in West London, came through the AG Academy and played for Barnet, Aldershot Town, Farnborough and Lewes before having trials with a number of Premier League clubs, including Chelsea.
His YouTube skills videos attracted worldwide interest and El-Mhanni worked as a body double for Neymar and Cristiano Ronaldo in television commercials.
El-Mhanni was signed by then-Championship club Newcastle United in July 2016.
He made his debut in an FA Cup Third Round win over Birmingham City in January 2017 and also featured in the next round against Oxford United.
El-Mhanni also made a number of appearances for Newcastle's under-23 side before being forced to make a complaint against under-23 coach Peter Beardsley.
He left St James' Park over the summer of 2018 after his official complaint against Beardsley over bullying and discrimination.
Beardsley was suspended for nine months after an independent investigation found he made discriminatory comments and his treatment of El-Mhanni was 'generally unfair'.
In October 2018, the 25-year-old Moroccan signed for League Two side Scunthorpe United and made 8 appearances, scoring his first professional goal in a 3–2 EFL Trophy loss to Mansfield Town.
Chesham have also signed young forward Anton Hooper, who was on the bench at Wimborne.
The 20-year-old was originally in National League Barnet`s academy before being spotted and signed by Premier League Aston Villa.
Hooper was offered a professional contract at Villa in the summer of 2018 after impressing in academy.
He went on to represent the under-18s and under-21s before being one of a plethora of players released from Villa Park in 2020.
