Aylesbury`s first ever meeting with FC Romania (Aylesbury United FC)
And there was only one home winner which came in the tie between Division One South rivals Slimbridge and Cinderford Town at Thornhill Park.
Jamie Martin gave the Swans a 12th-minute lead that Lewis Bamford levelled from the penalty spot after 33 minutes.
Martin restored the home side`s lead with a header on the hour-mark, only for Harry Emmett to equalised with 11 minutes remaining.
It finished 2-2, so it was penalties to decide who went through, and teenage goalkeeper Billy Thomas became Slimbridge`s hero with the vital save in the shoot-out to earn his side a 4-3 verdict.
It also needed penalties to separate Division One Central rivals Kidlington and Thame United at Yarnton Road.
Ryan Markham`s 25th-minute penalty looked like taking the Greens through until Thame grabbed an equaliser a minute into time added on at the end of the game by Dan West.
So, it was spot-kicks, and it went long into the night before visiting `keeper Craig Hill managed to save a crucial one for a 7-6 verdict.
The other tie on the evening saw two more Division One Central teams do battle at The Meadow where Aylesbury United took on FC Romania for the first time.
And it was the visitors who took the lead on the half-hour mark through Tobi Coker.
The lead lasted barely 8 minutes though as Ben Seaton pulled the Ducks back on level terms with a neat chip over visiting `keeper Lindon Marques.
Aylesbury were grateful to their own keeper, James Weatherill, for keeping the scoreline level in the second half with several decent saves, but he was finally beaten 5 minutes from time by FC Romania sub Usman Adeniji.
