Hayes & Yeading v Farnborough Top Billing in Busy Midweek of League Action

It`s a big midweek of action in the Pitching In Southern Football League after several weeks of cup activity.

In the Premier Division Central, leaders Coalville Town make the trip to Keys Park on Tuesday night to take on keen to maintain their three-point lead at the summit.

The Ravens obtained top spot after winning 2-1 at Crown Meadow on Saturday against Lowestoft Town.

The Trawlerboys are at home again on Tuesday when they face a crucial game against fellow strugglers Hitchin Town.

The Canaries sit bottom of the table, two points adrift of third-from-bottom Lowestoft and haven`t been in action since winning 4-1 against Lowestoft`s neighbours Leiston last Monday night.

Peterborough Sports, who suffered a rare defeat to Isthmian League North Division side Felixstowe & Walton United in the Buildbase FA Trophy on Saturday, will look to keep the pressure on Coalville when they welcome ninth-placed Royston Town to the Bee Arena.

It`s a busy week in the Premier Division South too, starting with this evening`s match at Holloways Park where Beaconsfield Town entertain a Hendon side still smarting from Saturday`s 2-0 defeat at Chesham United which saw manager Lee Allinson`s son Luca suffer a serious injury.

However, the majority of attention will focus on the meeting of leaders Farnborough and third-placed Hayes & Yeading United at the SKYex Community Stadium.

Paul Hughes` United side suffered a 3-0 loss in the Trophy at home on Saturday and also lost second spot to Gosport Borough after they hammered third-from-bottom Merthyr Town 5-0 at Privett Park.

Spencer Day`s Farnborough hold a six-point lead at the top, but Hayes & Yeading possess no less than FIVE games in hand over their Hampshire rivals and are also protecting their unbeaten league record.

Day`s side made Trophy progress at the weekend after beating Premier Division Central outfit Banbury United 1-0 at the EasyAsHGV Stadium.

It`s really a must-win game for United so as not to allow Boro to pull further away from them – and as the old saying goes, `points in the bag are better than games in hand`!

There`s another important derby game in the division affecting the other end of the table where fourth-from-bottom Dorchester Town welcome Dorset rivals Wimborne Town, who sit at the foot of the table with just one league win to date.

Both, however, go into the game buoyed by recent results, with Dorchester earning a crucial 2-0 win at The Avenue Stadium against another struggler, Kings Langley, while Wimborne gained a good 2-1 win at Weston-super-Mare in the Trophy.

In Division One Central on Tuesday night, Bedford Town will be looking to regain top spot they lost at the weekend to North Leigh whilst the Eagles were involved in the Trophy.

Gary Setchell`s side make the trip to the Arena to take on a Harlow Town side who missed a chance to put pressure on the top five when they drew 2-2 with Thame United.

Third-placed AFC Dunstable are also in action as they welcome Didcot Town to Creasey Park.

AFC are just a point behind Bedford and four of North Leigh.

The top two in Division One South, Frome Town and AFC Totton are also in action on Tuesday.

Frome have a first visit from Plymouth Parkway, while the Stags are also at home as they entertain Melksham Town.

The top two met in the Trophy on Saturday, with AFC Totton edging a typically tight game on penalties after a 2-2 draw in normal time.

Bottom-markers Barnstaple Town will again look for a first point of 2021/22 when they welcome a Bristol Manor Farm side still smarting from losing a top five spot following a 5-1 defeat at Winchester City on Saturday.
