With Berkhamsted already confirmed as champions of the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central, attention now focusses on the play-off and relegation situation.

Fourth-placed Walthamstow inflicted a 3-0 defeat on fifth-placed Ware at Wadham Lodge on Tuesday night and now trail second-placed Biggleswade FC, who play this evening, by just two points.

In front of a crowd of 248, Stow took a 39th minute lead when a Bilal Sayoud cross was finished off emphatically by Duncan Culley.

Seven minutes into the second half and Nick Ironton’s side doubled their advantage when Callum Ibe’s cut back was finished by Sayoud.

And 5 minutes later, victory was assured when a free-kick was headed home by Carl Mensah.

The champions were also back in action on Tuesday as they welcomed tenth-placed Welwyn Garden City to Broadwater.

The Citizens needed a win really to have a chance of mounting a late top five bid but fell behind after 14 minutes to an Alie Bangura effort.

But the visitors were level 9 minutes later with a Matteo Esposito goal.

Tobi Coker restored the Comrades lead 6 minutes into the second half but once again, the visitors responded well and were level within 2 minutes through Cyrus Babaie-Gumbs.

Berkhamsted’s keeper Dave Saunders maintained parity for his side when, 3 minutes from time, he made a tremendous save from Ethan Kessel.

Tuesday’s other game saw 16th-placed Aylesbury United share a 1-1 draw with mid-table AFC Dunstable at The Meadow.

Sonny French gave the Ducks an early 6th minute lead but the OD’s were level 11 minutes later when a foul on Max Bustamante saw Nathan Frater convert the resulting penalty.

Frater headed against the crossbar and at the other end, AFC Dunstable `keeper Jamie Head did well to deny Ezra Anthonio-Forde in a one-on-one but it finished honours even.

The draw leaves Aylesbury just two points above the drop zone.
