Sholing celebrate scoring at Willand Rovers (Photo Sholing FC)
Leaders AFC Totton attracted another terrific crowd of 1,298 for the visit of second-bottom Cinderford Town to the Snows Stadium.
A close-range header from Scott Rendell gave the Stags a 15th minute lead that he doubled 5 minutes before half-time when he was brought down in the box and he got up to convert the resulting penalty.
The second half saw a first goal in AFC Totton colours for Mitchell Speechley-Price 9 minutes from time to wrap things up.
Second-placed neighbours Sholing were 1-0 winners at the Stan Robinson Stadium against Willand Rovers.
Rob Flooks scored the only goal of the game right on half-time following a corner.
Third-placed Hamworthy United also won 1-0 on their travels at the First4Pools Stadium against Paulton Rovers.
The only goal arrived in the 32nd minute when a ball across the area was met by Will Fletcher who beat Rovers` keeper Aaron Sainsbury.
Despite having a real go in the second half, Paulton were unable to fashion an equaliser.
Wimborne Town had a crowd of 473 for the visit of Bishops Cleeve and maintained fourth spot with a 2-1 verdict at the Royale Life Stadium.
Cleeve never really recovered from conceding two goals in the opening 8 minutes from Lewis Beale and Dan Bartlett, although Ross Langworthy did manage a consolation 16 minutes from time.
And there was a crucial win for fifth-placed Tavistock AFC.
The Lambs beat Evesham United 1-0 at the Spiers & Hartwell Jubilee Stadium to kill off the Robins` own top five hopes.
A crowd of 302 saw Ed Harrison’s goal 5 minutes before half-time proved decisive.
And Tavistock had more good news after the game when they heard that sixth-placed Bashley had dropped two points at home to Exmouth Town and trail the Lambs by 5 points.
In front of 471 at The GlenMex Stadium, Aarron Denny broke the deadlock to give the visitors a 51st minute lead.
Frankie Monk levelled on 68 minutes, but the Villagers were unable to find a winner.
At the other end of the table, Bideford AFC’s 4-3 defeat at the Sports Ground to Westbury United still leaves them far from safe.
Harvey Flippance gave the visitors an 8th minute lead that the Devonians turned round into being 3-1 up at the break with goals from Javan Wright after 22 minutes, Aaron Taylor in the 33rd minute and Joe Charles just before the whistle for half-time.
But Ryan Bole on 53 minutes, Gary Higdon 5 minutes later and then Higdon again 11 minutes from time turned the game in United’s favour.
The day’s other game saw Lymington Town move a point and a place above Bideford after sharing a 0-0 draw with Larkhall Athletic at Plain Ham.
The teams also finished ten-a-piece on the field after the Larks` Brad Norris was shown two yellow cards in the 58th minute and then the visitors had Luke Gray dismissed in the 6th minute of stoppage time.
