Tyriq Hunte scores last-gasp winner (Photo Aylesbury United FC)
The game at The Save On Tyres Stadium started with the Worthians in 17th place, 4 points behind the Ducks in 16th and with a game in hand.
They ended the evening 7 points adrift with 9 points left to play for, so it was a vital win for Aylesbury.
After a nervy opening 45 minutes, it was the Ducks who broke the deadlock in the 68th minute when, following a period of pressure, a cross took a wicked deflection off Highworth defender Oliver Case and into the back of the net.
But, with less than 3 minutes of normal time remaining, the Worthians looked to have taken a point when the Ducks failed to deal with a cross and the ball was scrambled in by Dan Grieve.
Aylesbury then almost won it as time ticked into overtime but Case headed a Tyriq Hunte effort off the line.
However, 5 minutes into time added on, Hunte did score as he burst through to beat the home keeper and earn three crucial points.
