AFC Totton Presented With Championship Shield and Medals After Frome Draw

AFC Totton, who clinched the Pitching In Southern League Division One South title last Saturday, were held to a 1-1 draw by in-form Frome Town in their final home game of the season on Tuesday night.

Another terrific attendance of 1,328 at the Snows Stadium saw the Stags take an early 7th minute lead when Scott Rendell pounced on a loose ball in the box before firing past Frome keeper Kyle Phillips.

But on 22 minutes, Frome suffered a massive blow when they had Jon Davies shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Charlie Kennedy.

However, the visitors, who are on an unbeaten run of six matches which has taken them to being top five challengers, battled back and were awarded a penalty 8 minutes from time for handball against Adam Tomasso.

Lewis Graham duly equalised from the resulting spot-kick to salvage a draw, which leaves them a point behind the play-off places with one game remaining.

Following the game, the AFC Totton players were presented with their winners' medals and the Division One South Champions Shield by League Vice Chairman David Martin.

On Saturday 29th April, AFC Totton will face Berkhamsted in the Division One Champions final with the winner being presented with the Championship Cup.

Bashley moved into the top five on Tuesday night, but were unable to break visiting Westbury United down at the GlenMex Stadium.

In front of a crowd of 385, ninth-placed Westbury, who have enjoyed a good first season at Step 4 level, held their hosts to a 0-0 draw.

The point lifted Bash into fifth spot, ejecting Tavistock AFC, meaning it’s all to play for on the final day, with Evesham United, Bashley, Frome and Tavistock all battling for that final top five spot.

Bideford AFC were held to a 1-1 draw by Melksham Town at the Sports Ground.

The point sees the Devonians one point in front of the relegation zone, and they have two games left.

Both goals came within 3 minutes of each other just shy of the hour-mark, with Albie Hopkins giving Melksham the lead and Matt Buchan equalising.

Sholing are already assured of runners-up spot but will want to go into the play-offs in form, so will be disappointed with Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat at Plain Ham by Larkhall Athletic, who are now 11th.

Harley Prior gave the Larks an early 2nd minute lead.

But in the 70th minute, the home side had Abdulrasaq Alamu-Tajudeen dismissed.

And then 8 minutes from time, Sholing keeper Ryan Gosney was also sent-off for a last-man foul and with Jordan Rose in goal, Brad Norris made it 2-0 from the resulting free-kick.
