PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER CENTRAL | WEEKEND REVIEW

Leaders march on with ninth straight win

At the top of the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central, there is just no stopping Mickleover right now.

They secured their ninth straight League win courtesy of an emphatic 5-0 victory over AFC Sudbury as Andre Wright (pictured) helped himself to a hat-trick with Ben Sault and Ethan Mann also finding the net.

The latest triumph leaves them eight points ahead of nearest challengers, Halesowen Town, who extended their unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 victory over Stratford Town thanks to a brace from the in-form Miracle Okafor.

Needham Market sit third after they secured a good 2-0 away win at AFC Telford United courtesy of two goals early in each half from Luke Ingram. Also tucked in amongst the leading pack are Leamington, who also won 2-0, at home to Bromsgrove Sporting as Henry Landers and veteran Tyrone Barnett found the net.

Moving up the table are Redditch United, Stamford and Coalville Town. Redditch had a brace from Reece Flanagan to thank for their 3-2 win at St. Ives Town as they came back from being two goals down at half-time. Stamford meanwhile ran out deserved 3-0 winners in our Star Game against Stourbridge, who had goalkeeper, Charlie Price, sent off to complete a miserable afternoon.

Also coming from behind to claim victory was Coalville Town as they won 2-1 at Leiston, for whom Ross Crane had opened the scoring. Goals from Wes York and Tom McGlinchey turned the scoreline on its head.

At the bottom, there was heartbreak for Long Eaton United as a 96th minute equaliser from the evergreen Kelvin Langmead denied them victory over Kettering Town. Tyrone Lewthwaite had given the Poppies the lead before Ryley Reynolds and James Spruce hit back in the second half only for Langmead to make it 2-2 right at the death.

Having parted company with manager, Ian Long, at the start of the week, Alvechurch went to Berkhamsted and came home with a point from a 2-2 away drama, whilst Matt Stenson’s 50th minute strike was enough to see Nuneaton Borough beat Royston Town 1-0.

The day’s other game ended goalless at Hitchin Town and Barwell shared the spoils from a goalless stalemate.
