PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH | TUESDAY REVIEW

High-flyers back into winning ways

It was a busy night of action in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South where Merthyr Town returned to winning ways as they came from behind to secure a 2-1 success at Didcot Town, for whom Pat Osborne gave them the lead early in the second half only for Alex John and Thomas Hillman to turn the scoreline around.

It was a crazy ending to the game at Walton & Hersham where Chesham United added to their early lead with a last minute penalty to make it 2-0 only for the home side to score two goals deep into stoppage time to salvage a point.

There was a first defeat of the season for Salisbury as they lost 2-1 at Sholing. Goals in either half by Wayne Robinson and Daniel Mason put the home side in control and a Sam Pritchard own goal proved too little, too late for the visitors.

Beaconsfield Town enjoyed their away day to Bracknell Town as they ran out 3-0 winners with the ageless Jefferson Louis opening the scoring in the first half before Joseph Morrison and Master Sankoh added further goals in the closing stages.

Things came together finally for Plymouth Parkway as they hit five without reply against Dorchester Town. Jack Cargo bagged two more goals whilst Reece Thomson, Callum Hall and Matt Wright joined him on the scoresheet.

Another side to chalk up a commanding success was Hayes & Yeading United who were 3-0 victors over Harrow Borough. A Norman Wabo penalty set them on their way before another new-boy, Ronan Silva, added a second goal and Steve Ngunga completed the scoring in stoppage time.

It looked like being a similarly straightforward win for Hungerford Town as an early own goal from James Edge set them on their way at Swindon Supermarine before Conor McDonagh doubled their advantage on the stroke of half-time and then Elis Watts made it three a couple of minutes into the second period.

But the home side hit back and Henry Spalding reduced the arrears just before the hour-mark. A Jake Andrews goal on 78 minutes made it a grandstand finish, but Hungerford held on.

Basingstoke Town’s winning run came to an end at Winchester City as they fell to a 2-1 defeat. Sim Mlambo opened the scoring for City but Daniel Rowe levelled matters right on the interval only for a Thomas Wright strike straight after the restart to settle matters.

The final game saw honours end even at Hendon as they shared six goals with Hanwell Town in what was an entertaining encounter.

Gosport Borough remain top of the table and they take on AFC Totton on Wednesday evening.
