There was plenty of Tuesday evening action in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South with the goals flying in.
Leaders, Willand Rovers, slipped to their second defeat of the season with a 3-2 reverse at Bashley. Brett Williams gave the home side the lead on 20 minutes and then Maxwell Wilcock doubled the advantage as half-time approached. Rovers were able to pull a goal back in stoppage time at the end of the opening period, but Rian Drake restored his side’s two-goal advantage early in the second half. Owen Howe’s late strike proved mere consolation.
In second place, Melskham Town remain unbeaten from their opening six League games. They drew for the third time this season at Hamworthy United after Ben Brooks’ opener was cancelled out by Will Fletcher for the home side.
It was also honours even between the in-form Bishops Cleeve and Yate Town where Harrison Reeves struck early on for Cleeve only for Joe O’Loughlin to level things up just before the hour-mark. Sam Pashen then gave Yate the lead with just six minutes left on the clock, but straight away, Ross Langworthy went down the other end and made it 2-2.
There was an explosive start for Larkhall Athletic at Malvern Town. A brace within the opening ten minutes from Alex Lambert put them in control before Matt Bowman and Jack Camm gave them a four-goal advantage at the break. The home side hit back in the second half with Jack Watts and Joe Davies finding the net, but it was too little, too late.
Two matches ended 3-2 with Frome Town holding off the challenge of Evesham United, for whom Levi Steele bagged a brace, whilst three goals within the final 17 minutes gave Westbury United victory over Wimborne Town. Harry Baker opened the scoring for Wimborne only for Bradley Norris and Harvey Flippance to turn the scoreline around. Jack Lovell levelled matters briefly before Callum Demkiv bagged the winner.
Having been out of League action for a month, Bideford returned with a 1-0 win at Paulton Rovers. The winning goal came from Ryan Turner and even though the Devon outfit had Charlie Madden sent off, they managed to hang on to claim all three points.
