Long-serving manager departs

There has been a change at the helm of Pitching In Southern League Premier South outfit, Tiverton Town, with long-serving manager, Martyn Rogers, departing the club.

With two wins from their opening ten League games, it has been a slow start to the campaign for the Devon outfit.

“After meeting with the Executive Committee, we agreed that the best interests of the club would be served by a change to the management structure,” said Yellows Chairman Michael Dunford “Richard Pears will be Interim First-Team Manager and the Executive Committee will now focus on a recruitment process to identify a talented new First-Team Manager. Richard will be part of that process.

“Martyn is a living Ladysmead legend, and rightly so. What he has achieved for Tiverton Town, on the pitch and off it, is immeasurable and the Executive Committee heads generations of Yellows who are beyond grateful for his management of the club.

“Whoever takes over as our new First-Team Manager can build on the foundations that Martyn has laid, bringing their own fresh ideas and a new vision to supplement what is already in place.”

It was back in 1992 that Rogers took over in the hot-seat, initially on a player-manager basis having previously appeared over 150 times for Exeter City.

He remained in charge until May 2010 having amassed over 1,000 games in charge, which included three Wembley finals, two FA Vase wins as well as promotion into The Southern League.

After spells at Weymouth and Taunton Town, the 68 year-old returned to the club where his experience served them well.

Following their Isuzu FA Trophy exit at the hands of Swindon Supermarine last weekend, they return to League action on Saturday with the visit of Walton & Hersham to Ladysmead.
