PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH | WEEKEND REVIEW

Wet weather fails to dampen the action

The wet weather failed to dampen things in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South.

It was a day to remember for Evesham United who went to high-flying Bemerton Heath Harlequins and came home with a resounding 5-0 triumph to secure their second win of the season (pictured). Amer Awadh opened the scoring early on before Levi Steele doubled their advantage. Toby Raison sent the Worcestershire outfit into the break three goals to the good as Alfie Dunn and Fred Willcox completed the rout.

Having seen their managerial duo depart during the week, Paulton Rovers responded well with a commanding 3-0 success at local rivals, Bristol Manor Farm. Kyle Tooze gave them a first half lead before Joseph Morgan and Martin Lenihan added to the scoreline in the second half.

Leaders, Willand Rovers, were well beaten at Mousehole, where Jack Bray-Evans set the Cornish side on their way with a 12th minute strike before Hayden Turner added a second. After the break, Marks Goldsworthy and a second from Bray-Evans completed the scoring.

Also hitting four goals were Yate Town as they beat bottom of the table, Exmouth Town 4-1. Joseph Hall notched an early opener before quick-fire strikes from Dylan Lewis and Brandon Oputeri added to the home side’s lead. Exmouth rallied and Ben Steer reduced the arrears soon afterwards but Ryan Lewis-Hillier made the encounter safe late on with a fourth goal.

Bideford recovered from going a goal down early on at the hands of Wimborne Town to chalk up a good 3-1 triumph. It was Jez Bedford who opened the scoring for the Dorset club before Mattie Buchan hit a second half double with Ryan Turner also notching a goal.

There was late drama at Larkhall Athletic where a stoppage time penalty from Dawid Regula gave them the points at the expense of Melksham Town, whilst Tavistock picked up a 3-1 victory over Bishops Cleeve as Mitchel Beardmore gave them the lead only for Ethan Dunbar to cancel it out straight away. Joseph O’Connor put them back in front midway through the opening period before Beardmore weighed in with his second of the afternoon early in the second half.

Making a return to winning ways were Bashley who beat Frome Town 3-2. Sean Wright gave them an early lead but Jonathan Davies levelled. It wasn’t long before the experienced Brett Williams restored Bashley’s advantage and then Conor Whiteley added to their lead just after the hour-mark. Matt Wood grabbed a late consolation goal.

It was another clean sheet for Cribbs in the day’s other game as they brought home a point from a goalless draw at Westbury United.
