PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH | WEEKEND REVIEW

Seventh heaven for Poole Town

In the Pitching In Southern League Premier South, Poole Town chalked up a 7-0 away win at Didcot Town.

They took the lead just past the half-hour mark through Cameron Murray before Toby Holmes doubled their advantage right on the stroke of half-time. It gave them the momentum to go on and dominate the second period with Tony-James Lee and Frankie Monk both bagging braces as Holmes also got his second.

The defeat sees Didcot hit the bottom of the table after Swindon Supermarine picked up a point – and a clean sheet – from a goalless home draw with Sholing.

Salisbury remain top, but they had a stoppage time winner to thank for their 2-1 triumph over Hayes & Yeading United. Noah Coppin gave them a tenth minute lead which was cancelled out soon afterwards by Sam Faniyan before Wayne Robinson popped up to snatch the winning goal late on.

In second place is Gosport Borough, who came from behind to beat Hendon 2-1. Olatunbosun Adenola gave the visitors the lead before Alexandr Barsa equalised five minutes before the break and then Danny Hollands hit what turned out to be the clinching goal early in the second period.

There was a third League defeat of the season for Chesham United as they succumbed to a 4-0 reverse at Bracknell Town, for whom Joseph Grant hit a brace in the final 20 minutes.

Merthyr Town’s stuttering form continued as they lost 3-1 at home to AFC Totton. Joe Turner opened the scoring for the visitors but their lead lasted barely three minutes before Lewis Powell levelled. The second half saw Turner weigh in with a second and then the evergreen Scott Rendell wrapped things up late on.

A welcome 4-1 win for Dorchester Town over Basingtoke Town saw them move in the right direction up the table. Jack Dickson opened the scoring early on and it was a lead that was doubled on 18 minutes through Oliver Haste. Two goals after the break from Shaquille Gwengwe saw them home and dry, even though Liam Ferdinand pulled a late goal back for the visitors.

There was also a late goal for Plymouth Parkway, but this one proved to be a vital winner at Walton & Hersham. A penalty from Shane White gave the visitors a first half lead which they held on to until the last minute when Trae Cook-Appiah looked to have grabbed a point for the hosts. However, there was to be a sting in the tail as Dylan Jones popped up to take the points back home to Devon for his side and in doing so give them their first away win of the season.

In similar fashion, Jamie Barron claimed all three points for Winchester City from their game at Beaconsfield Town. A late leveller from Josh Payne looked to have given the home side a share of the spoils as he cancelled out Oliver Balmer’s tenth minute opener.

The day’s other games ended all square as Mathew MacKenzie hit a stoppage time equaliser for Hanwell Town in their 2-2 draw at Hungerford Town, whilst there were no goals at Tiverton Town in their clash with Harrow Borough.
