PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH | WEEKEND REVIEW

Wimborne Town back on top following thriller

The Pitching In Southern League Division One South table sees Wimborne Town back on top after they won a highly entertaining encounter with Mousehole.

It was the Cornish outfit who took the lead through Jack Bray-Evans and they remained in front until early in the second half when Connor Cocklin levelled matters. It sparked the home side to life and quick-fire strikes from Harry Morgan and Lewis Beale put them in the driving seat. A goal from Hayden Turner for the visitors made it a grandstand finish in front of a crowd of 636.

Moving up into second place is the in-form Frome Town who chalked up a convincing 3-0 victory over previous leaders, Willand Rovers. A Warren Maidment brace within the opening 20 minutes set the tone and by the time Sam Meakes added a third just past the hour-mark, they already had the game sewn up.

There was also a defeat for Bemerton Heath Harlequins as they succumbed 3-1 at Malvern Town who won their first home game of the season. Joe Bullock and Jordan Annear scored just before the break and then top scorer, Jack Watts, sealed the points on 76 minutes. A late penalty from Eder Teixeira Batista proved to be mere consolation.

Cribbs are enjoying life at this level and they came home from Melksham Town with a 3-2 victory. David Duru’s early opener was followed by a goal from Harris Feltham to put them two goals to the good. Robbie James pulled one back for the home side right on half-time but within six minutes of the restart, Jacob Brown restored the two-goal advantage. Ben Brooks pulled another back but Cribbs held out and now sit in fifth place.

A stoppage time goal from Liam Prynn gave Tavistock a 3-2 success at Bristol Manor Farm. It was Prynn who opened the scoring before an own goal from Oliver Woodhouse put Tavistock two goals to the good only for a second half brace from Jayden Nielsen to level matters.

The day’s other two games both ended 1-1 as Bishops Cleeve shared the spoils with Bashley and Exmouth Town saw their lead against Westbury United cancelled out in the final six minutes.
