PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER CENTRAL | WEEKEND REVIEW

Leaders return to winning ways

Leaders Mickleover returned to winning ways in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central with a good 2-0 victory over in-form Nuneaton Borough. Matthew Bowman set them on their way during the first half before Marcus Barnes doubled their lead at the start of the second period.

Second-placed Needham Market had to come from behind to beat Bromsgrove Sporting 2-1. A goal on the quarter-hour mark from Callum King-Harmes put Sporting ahead only for a quick-fire double from Jake Dye and Seth Carroll-Chambers to turn the scoreline around.

Leamington are making purposeful strides up the table and three second half goals gave them a solid 3-0 triumph over Redditch United. Callum Stewart set them on their way five minutes after the break before Ewan Williams and Theo Streete secured the points.

Also winning 3-0, but this time away from home, were Barwell who brought home three good points from Royston Town thanks to a Beck-Ray Enoru brace and a further strike from Kobe Chong.

There were three more away wins as a double from the moustachioed Niall Flint gave Stourbridge a 2-1 success at AFC Sudbury, for whom Joe Neal had cancelled out Flint’s early opener. Meanwhile Jonnie Edwards also hit a brace as St. Ives Town prospered 2-0 at Berkhamsted, and Stratford Town left it late to secure a 3-2 triumph at bottom of the table Long Eaton United with Lewis Ludford-Ison getting the stoppage time winner.

The scoreline was also 3-2 at Leiston where the home side recovered from conceding two early goals to beat Stamford. Lee Shaw opened the scoring on three minutes and this was followed by a 12th minute strike from Tendai Chitiz, however George Quantrell a goal back and then Ross Crane levelled with just over 15 minutes to go before Christopher Casement popped up at the death to win it with an impressive free-kick.

The other games ended with honours even as Alvechurch and Kettering Town played out a 1-1 draw, as did Coalville Town and Halesowen Town.
