PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH | REVIEW

Leaders slip to defeat

In the Pitching In Southern League Premier South, leaders Salisbury lost for only the second time this season as they slipped to a 2-1 set-back at Merthyr Town.

The home side took the lead through Keiran Evans before Harry Williams restored parity as half-time approached, however, there was still time at the end of the opening period for the hosts to regain the lead and that’s how the scoreline remained.

Second-placed Gosport Borough saw their game at Harrow Borough postponed, one of three to succumb to the weather with a further two abandoned as Dorchester Town’s home encounter with Beaconsfield Town and Poole Town’s clash with Winchester City were unable to finish, with both games at 1-1 when the decision was made.

At Dorchester it was the fog that caused the issue whilst floodlight failure was the reason for Poole’s abandonment.

Our Star Game ended in a 2-2 draw between AFC Totton and Chesham United. Leading scorer, Ricardo German opened the scoring for the visitors on the half-hour mark and then Zak Joseph doubled their advantage soon afterwards.

The visitors hit back in the second period when the evergreen Scott Rendell reduced the arrears before Leon Maloney levelled late on.

Continuing their climb up the table are Hungerford Town who recorded a good 1-0 away win at Tiverton Town as Sam De St Croix hit the all-important goal within the final ten minutes to move his side up to sixth place.

Another team rising up the table, albeit at the other end, are Swindon Supermarine who are now third from bottom following another 3-2 win, this time at Hendon. David Sims-Burgess gave them an early lead only for Kai Omoko Brosnan to hit back on 20 minutes and then put his side in front early in the second period. Defender, Toby Raison equalised and moments later, Levi Irving put the visitors back in front.

Also winning away were Sholing as a brace from Daniel Mason saw them to a 2-1 triumph at Basingstoke Town, for whom Liam Ferdinand gave them the lead on the stroke of half-time.

The day’s other game saw Bracknell Town beat Hanwell Town 3-1. Jordan Espirit was quick off the mark with the opening goal for the home side but it was soon cancelled out by Elliot Benyon. Second half strikes from Joseph Grant and Darryl Harrison saw the points secured for the home team.
