Royston Town made what manager, Chris Watters, described as a ‘perfect’ start to the New Year as they ended Leiston’s impressive seven-game unbeaten League run whilst extending their own to four games.
The entertaining 3-2 away win thrust The Crows up to 14th place in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central table.
“It was a perfect start to the New Year for us,” beamed Watters. “We knew that it would be difficult because whilst we went there in a good run of form, the run that they have been on has been even better!
“It’s never an easy place to visit but we fully deserved our lead. We switched off after the goal and gave away two soft goals, the kind of which I thought we had managed to eradicate from our game.
“Our hosts then went down to ten men and I thought that the way in which we reacted to it was outstanding.
“We knew what we had to do; we were patient and kept doing the right things to ultimately get our reward with a couple of goals to turn the scoreline back in our favour.
“I was happy for all three of our scorers, but especially Fabs [Fabio Virciglio] as he grabbed what proved to be the winner on his debut.
“We’ve been excellent over the past four games and now go into a run of fixtures against teams who are in and around us, so hopefully we can continue our rich vein of form and continue climbing the table.”
Royston play host to another in-form team on Saturday as they lock horns with AFC Sudbury.
