PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH | WEEKEND REVIEW

Leaders march on

In the Pitching In Southern League Division One South Wimborne Town reached the 40-point mark following a 4-1 away win at Exmouth Town.

An early goal from Jack Lovell set them on their way as Harry Morgan doubled the advantage within the opening 20 minutes. The home side were able to pull a goal back on the half-hour mark through Aarron Denny but Lovell settled the nerves with his second of the game within seconds of the start of the second half. Lewis Beale completed the scoring in the closing stages.

There was late drama at Bristol Manor Farm where visitors, Bideford, grabbed a last minute winner in an entertaining 3-2 success. Owen Brain opened the scoring for the hosts but Mattie Buchan levelled matters midway through the first half. Finn Roberts then turned the scoreline on its head on the stroke of half-time only for Brain to equalise early in the second half before Josh Webber became the hero with the all-important goal.

Frome Town had a commanding 3-0 victory over Bemerton Heath Harlequins. Skipper Sam Teale led by example with an early goal and it was followed up by second half strikes from Jonathan Davies and Zachary Drew.

Moving into the top five are Evesham United who had a 54th minute goal from Levi Steele to thank for their 1-0 away win at Westbury United.

Also winning away were Melksham Town as early goals from Ben Brooks and Sam Hendy gave them a 2-1 triumph at Bashley, for whom Conor Whiteley pulled a goal back during the opening period.

Bishops Cleeve were convincing victors over Larkhall Athletic as second half goals from Jay Malshanskyj, Toby Holland, Ross Langworthy and Joshua Nelmes gave them a 4-0 success.

The day’s other two games ended level as Paulton Rovers and Mousehole played out a 3-3 draw. Tim Nixon put the Cornishmen ahead only for Daniel Restorick and Jamarni Langlais to turn things around before half-time.

After the break, Morgan Lewis levelled on the hour but within five minutes, David O’Hare put the home side back ahead. Tallan Mitchell got the leveller with a minute to go.

It was not as entertaining at Malvern Town as they played out a goalless stalemate with Yate Town.

Tavistock’s home game against Willand Rovers was postponed.
