There were six games succumb to the winter weather in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central.
The day belonged to St. Ives Town who went to high-flying Mickleover and won 5-0 with Jonny Edwards grabbing four of the goals – all in the second half – after Michael Richens had opened the scoring late in the opening period.
That loss combined with Needham Market’s game falling victim of the weather, meant that Redditch United went top after a hard-earned derby day victory over Bromsgrove Sporting. Aram Soleman got the winner with a quarter-of-an-hour left on the clock in a game that was watched by a crowd of over 1,500.
Dan Sweeney was amongst the goals once more as Alvechurch picked up another vital three points as they came from behind to beat Hitchin Town 2-1. Joshua Popoola popped up to put the visitors ahead only for Sweeney to level matters with 15 minutes to go before Yaw Nantwi-Ofosu got a late winner.
The day’s other game that survived the weather saw Barwell and AFC Sudbury play out a goalless draw.
