As clubs throughout the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central showed their respects to Southern League Chairman, Anthony Hughes, who passed away earlier this week, North Leigh were able to extend their lead at the top as they came from behind to win at Welwyn Garden City whilst Bedford Town slipped to only their second defeat of the season.
A goal on three minutes from Dernell Wynter gave North Leigh a wake-up call as they fell behind but the response came from Lance Williams before the half-hour and they were able to build on it with second half strikes from Adam Smith and Owen James.
Meanwhile Bedford Town lost to an Aylesbury United outfit that find themselves in the lower reaches of the table. Kennedy Feyi gave the visitors an early lead but it was soon cancelled out by Carl Mensah. The next goal didn’t arrive until five minutes from time as Brayden Daniel fired home a morale-boosting winner.
In our Star Game, Cirencester Town came from behind to register a good 4-1 victory over fellow high-flyers, Waltham Abbey. It was Nathan Twin-Koranteng who put the visitors ahead only for Nicholas Peare to restore parity. Ben Whitehead put the hosts in front towards the end of the opening period and then hit another in the opening exchanges of the second half. The scoring was rounded off by Felix Miles late on.
A stoppage time leveller salvaged a point for Biggleswade Town in their home clash with AFC Dunstable. The visitors went into a two-goal first half lead as Ethan Holt and Arnold Matshazi found the net before Jonathan Lacey pulled a goal back with just under quarter-of-an-hour to go. It set things up for Rhys Hoenes to equalise with 93 minutes on the clock.
In the battle at the bottom, a single goal from Ryan Knight proved to be the difference as Thame United beat Kempston Rovers, whilst just above them, Kidlington and Hadley played out a goalless draw.
Two Albie Hall goals helped Leighton Town on their way to a 3-1 win at Hertford Town. An opener for the visitors from Ben Farrell was cancelled out almost straight away by Brian Garzon before Hall took over.
It took a second half strike from Freddy Moncur to give Ware a hard-earned 1-0 triumph over Biggleswade FC, as the day’s other game saw Kings Langley let a two-goal lead slip to draw 2-2 with Barton Rovers. Louie Collier and Rayan Clarke put the home side in control only for Matt Moloney to score either side of half-time to earn his team a point in their bid to move away from the danger zone.
