PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE CENTRAL | WEEKEND REVIEW

Bedford Town back at the summit

The Pitching In Southern League Division One Central sees Bedford Town back on top after their 3-1 victory at AFC Dunstable combined with North Leigh’s 3-1 home reverse at the hands of Hertford Town.

A first goal for the club from Liam Dulson set Bedford on their way in the sixth minute before Fernando Bell-Toxtle doubled their advantage at the start of the second period. The home side pulled one back through Arnold Matshazi late on but Jemale Olayinka sealed it with a third goal deep into stoppage time.

Meanwhile North Leigh were stunned when quick fire goals from Brian Garzon and Sonny Coughlin-Brown had their opponents two goals up within the opening 20 minutes. Worse was to follow when Sudayisi Sendege added a third as half-time approached and although George Gilmore pulled one back right at the end of the opening period, it wasn’t enough.

There was away day joy for Biggleswade Town as they came home from Aylesbury United 3-1 victors. They had to come from behind to do it as David Lynn gave the hosts the lead early in the second half. It inspired a response as Rhys Hoenes levelled ten minutes later and then Liam Brooks added a second before Rohdell Gordon completed the scoring shortly afterwards.

A goal in each half gave Waltham Abbey a 2-0 triumph over Kidlington. Jason Hallett opened the scoring early on and then Ben Baker hit the second in stoppage time at the end.
In the lower reaches of the table, Thame United secured a good 2-0 away win at Stotfold with Oscar Lucey and Harry Alexander getting the goals in the second half, whilst Hadley had a Jordan Edwards goal to thank for their 1-0 triumph over play-off hopefuls, Cirencester Town.

There was also a win for Barton Rovers who beat Ware 2-1 to give them a much-needed three points. Matt Moloney put Rovers ahead early in the second period only for Jack Dreyer to restore parity. The winner came from the boot of Lucas Kirkpatrick.

It means that Kempston Rovers are starting to get cut adrift. They started well against Welwyn Garden City and went ahead with just two minutes on the clock. But Brad Wadkins cancelled it out in the tenth minute and Gucci Soulya-Osekanongo turned the scoreline on its head early in the second half to give the visitors a 2-1 triumph.

The day’s other game saw Biggleswade FC beat Kings Langley 2-0 thanks to goals from Oliver Snaith and Amaru Kaunda in the second half.
