AFC Dunstable have seen two more of its talented young players elevate their footballing careers with exciting pathway opportunities.
Central midfielder, Cam Cook (pictured), is set for the sunshine of California having secured a full scholarship to NCAA Division One side, San Jose State University, whilst defender, Bobby Knight, heads down under having earned a contract offer from WA State League Division One outfit, Quinns FC, who are based in Perth, Australia.
These are the two latest success stories from the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central club and its custodians, Varsity Nine, who are helping the club’s crop of emerging talent progress in the game under the watchful eye of first-team managers, James Townsend and Joe Oxley.
The managerial duo, who joined the club in 2023, have focussed on building a strong young team with development potential at its core.
“Cam has been a top student at the Varsity Nine Academy and a key player for our first-team,” said Townsend. “He will be a huge loss for us; we’ll miss his running, creativity, goals and personality.
“Bobby has also been a big personality on and off-the-pitch. He’s showed great determination and competitiveness and has been always reliable and dependable in defensive situations, with a great left foot.”
AFC Dunstable Chairman, Dan Bedi, added: “As a club, we are proud to champion football career development by providing our talented young players with exposure to professional opportunities across the globe.
“This is an integral part of our club mantra; ‘to be better than we were yesterday’.”
The club currently runs 22 youth teams and four senior teams, male and female, and has developed a reputation as a progressive and ever-growing football club.
In March 2023, Varsity Nine Limited became the custodians of AFC Dunstable, with a long-term vision of creating sustainability and to propel the club forward on the playing front, whilst retaining the soul and ethos of the club.
They work closely with long-standing committee members at the club with the one shared goal of elevating the club, both on and off the pitch.
It’s a relationship that is going from strength-to-strength with the team sitting just outside the play-off places having achieved some notable results and put in some impressive performances over the course of the season so far.
