PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH | WEEKEND REVIEW

All the latest action

In the Pitching In Southern League Division One South, Wimborne Town became the first team t reach the 50-point mark following their 2-0 away win at in-form Yate Town.

Our Star Game saw Jack Lovell open the scoring just past the half-hour mark and within a minute, the lead was doubled when Matt Burrows found the net and that’s how the scoreline remained.

The victory saw Wimborne leapfrog back over Frome Town, who had gone top following a dramatic victory at Westbury United on Friday evening. Harvey Flippance and Jasper Jones had given the home side a two-goal half-time lead only for Jonathan Davies to pull one back early in the second period. Sam Meakes then equalised with seven minutes to go before Davies popped up to notch a dramatic stoppage time winner.

Cribbs were able to get back into winning ways with a good 2-1 away win at fellow play-off hopefuls Bideford. David Duru put the visitors ahead but Mattie Buchan was able to restore parity. Ryan Cainey notched what proved to be the winner with 20 minutes to go.

With Evesham United held to a 1-1 draw at Larkhall Athletic as Archie Ferris cancelled out a Charlie Wise opener for the visitors, there was a good 4-2 triumph for Bemerton Heath Harlequins over Willand Rovers. Eder Teixeira Batista and Brendan Holmes put the hosts in the driving seat before Douglas Camilo reduced the arrears. Danny Young and Muhammed Jatta further increased the home side’s lead as Josh Baker hit a late consolation.

There was drama at Bristol Manor Farm where Aarron Denny gave Exmouth Town the lead. Daniel Dodimead levelled but Callum Shipton restored the visitors’ advantage and it was a lead that they held until the closing stages when Jayden Neilsen equalised. Worse was to follow for the Devon outfit when Oliver Woodhouse nicked it for the home side eight minutes into stoppage time.

Hero of the day was Jamie Johnston (pictured) who hit all four goals for Bashley in their 4-1 victory over Paulton Rovers. It took until just after the hour-mark for the deadlock to be broken as Chris Peck hit Rovers’ consolation.

The day’s other game saw Malvern Town maintain their impressive home form with a 2-0 success against Bishops Cleeve as Jack Watts and Jordan Annear got the goals against their former club.
