PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH | WEEKEND REVIEW

Plenty of action

Our Pitching In Southern League Division One South game of the day lived up to its billing as Wimborne Town and Cribbs played out a 2-2 draw.

It was the visitors who took the lead through Josh Bennett but it didn’t last long as within ten minutes, Oakley Hanger had restored parity. In front of a crowd of over 800, Cameron Munn gave the home side the lead just past the hour-mark and it looked like they would hold on until David Duru bagged a late leveller in a game which saw Cribbs receive three red cards.

The draw meant that Frome Town were able to take advantage by going top courtesy of their 3-1 triumph over Tavistock. A Pierce Mitchell separated the sides at the interval before Roy Simpson and Sam Meakes added to the score. Daniel Koita’s late effort was mere consolation as the home specialists prospered once more.

Up to fourth is Bristol Manor Farm after they breezed past Bemerton Heath Harlequins by four goals to nil. They got themselves two goals to the good before ten minutes had even been played through Jamie Adams and Jayden Nielsen. After the break, Rhys Thomas and Oliver Woodhouse added further goals.

Yate Town returned to winning ways against fellow play-off hopefuls, Bideford. In a closely-fought encounter, it took an own goal from Tyler Yendle to decide the contest.

There were goals aplenty for Exmouth Town as they secured a morale-boosting 5-0 victory over Larkhall Athletic. All five goals came in the second period as two quickfire strikes from Michael Landricombe set them on their way. Ace High then repeated the feat with two goals in quick succession himself before Levi Landricombe completed a memorable day late on.

Also amongst the goals were Bishops Cleeve who hit Paulton Rovers for six in a 6-2 triumph. Will Turner set the home side on their way and then an own goal from Neil Martin doubled their advantage. As half-time approached, Ethan Dunbar made it three to put his side firmly in the driving seat. Player-manager, Kyle Tooze reduced the arrears but Ross Langworthy added a fourth for the hosts. Soon afterwards Toby Holland made it five and although Martin pulled another back with a goal at the right end, Jay Malshanskyj completed the scoring as he hit a sixth for Cleeve.

A brace from Hayden Turner gave Mousehole a good 2-1 win at Evesham United, for whom Charlie Wise pulled on back late on.

The day’s other action saw it end goalless between Melksham Town and Willand Rovers as the encounter between Bashley and Malvern Town fell victim of the wet weather.
