There was one game in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South on Wednesday evening as Poole Town made a welcome return to winning ways with a 2-1 triumph at play-off hopefuls, Gosport Borough.
In the wake of Matt Tubbs’ departure, Tobias Holmes put the Dolphins ahead on the stroke of half-time before Jake Scrimshaw doubled their lead early in the second period. A goal from Dan Wooden reduced the deficit for the hosts but they were unable to complete a comeback.
The victory ended a run of seven straight defeats for the Dorset outfit.
Three games took place in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South with Larkhall Athletic taking the plaudits as they breezed past high-flying Cribbs by five goals to one.
Alex Lambert fired the home side ahead early on only for David Duru to level matters. But with the visitors’ options reduced by suspension and injury, the hosts turned the screw as Archie Ferris and Matthew Bowman gave them a 3-1 lead going into the break.
A fourth goal came on the hour-mark from Harvey Pritchard and then Max Williams completed the scoring late on to secure a resounding victory for his side as Cribbs slipped to only their fourth defeat of the season.
Exmouth Town added another point to their tally with a 1-1 home draw against Bishops Cleeve. Joe Belsten gave the Devon club the lead early in the second half before Ross Langworthy restored parity on the hour-mark and that is how it remained.
It was the same scoreline at Tavistock as a 97th minute goal from Jacob Bowker salvaged them a point against Melksham Town, who went ahead just past the hour through Benjani Mwaruwari.
