The battle of the top two in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South went the way of second-place Salisbury as they beat Chesham United 3-1.
In front of a crowd of almost 1,200, Noah Coppin gave the home side an early lead before Josh Hedges doubled the advantage just past the hour-mark. A penalty from Ricardo German set up a tense final quarter-of-an-hour before Hedges settled it with his second goal of the afternoon in stoppage time.
There was a commanding victory for third-place Gosport Borough as they went to Hayes & Yeading United and came home with a 3-0 triumph thanks to first half goals from Gerson Da Costa Ramos and Dan Wooden. A late Alfie Stanley strike completed the scoring.
AFC Totton recovered from going a goal down early on to beat Tiverton Town 2-1. Alex Fletcher put the hosts ahead on five minutes only for Tony-James Lee to level matters going into the break. Joseph Oastler won it on the hour-mark.
A late penalty condemned Merthyr Town to a 3-2 defeat at ten-man Bracknell Town. It was the Welsh club who went ahead through Thomas Handley but the lead was to last barely five minutes before Ashley Lodge equalised. Great Evans put the home side ahead early on but within minutes parity was restored through Ricardo Rees. With Joe Grant dismissed, Bracknell still went on to claim victory as Lodge converted a 95th minute penalty.
It was also 3-2 at Basingstoke Town as they beat Hendon. Having been named as the Premier South Team of the Month for February, the home side fell behind on the stroke of half-time as Joe White scored. Brad Wilson wasted little time at the start of the second period to level and then Paul Hodges put them in front before Wilson added another. Niko Muir-Merchant reduced the arrears late on but it was not enough.
There was a return to winning ways for Walton & Hersham as they secured a 3-1 victory at Poole Town. Alex Kelly put the visitors in front as Stan Flaherty made it two before the break. Jordan Chiedozie pulled one back only for Anis Nuur to make the points safe.
Also winning away were Harrow Borough who were 3-1 victors at Sholing. Quickfire strikes from Excellence Muhemba and Harlem Hale put the visitors in the driving seat before an own goal from Jack Tutton gave the home side a lifeline just before the break. Reece Mitchell settled it with ten minutes to go.
Dorchester Town were able to battle out a 2-1 triumph over Beaconsfield Town. Shaquille Gwengwe gave them the lead midway through the first half before the visitors levelled matters with just under 20 minutes to go through Jacques Kpohomouh. However, Will Spetch won it shortly afterwards.
The day’s other game saw Swindon Supermarine overcome the challenge of Plymouth Parkway by three goals to nil. Ioan Richards opened the scoring in the first half and then David Sims-Burgess and Bradley Gray added further goals after the break.
