PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE | MONDAY PREVIEW

More great Easter action

We’re now at the business end of the season and there are a plethora of mouth-watering games coming up on Bank Holiday Monday. Here’s our pick of the action:

AFC TOTTON v WALTON & HERHAM | PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER SOUTH
This game sees the home side eager to strengthen their place in the play-off zone against opponents who are one of the sides just on the fringes of the top five who are in need the points to keep up their challenge. After a run of four wins from five games, AFC Totton were held to a goalless draw at Poole Town on Good Friday, whilst Walton & Hersham had to rely on an equaliser deep into stoppage time to give them a share of the spoils from a 4-4 home draw with Harrow Borough in their last outing.

NEEDHAM MARKET v AFC SUDBURY | PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE PREMIER CENTRAL
This local derby has implications both ends of the table. The home side need the points to take them closer to the League title, whilst for the visitors, they currently occupy the last relegation place and are four points adrift of the safety zone. Needham Market made it four wins in a row on Good Friday, with only one goal conceded, whilst AFC Sudbury extended their winless run to three games as they lost at home to St. Ives Town. They quickly need to find the recent form that served them well.

MELKSHAM TOWN v FROME TOWN | PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE SOUTH
This is an opportunity for Frome Town to regain top spot in the table with Wimborne Town not in action. They claimed their fourth straight win on Saturday with a commanding 4-0 triumph over Bideford to make it eight games unbeaten and now head to a Melksham Town side who are looking to rediscover their early season promise and end the campaign on a high. They secured a hard-earned point from their trip to Malvern Town on Good Friday and will be looking to make life tough for the title contenders.

BIGGLESWADE TOWN v BEDFORD TOWN | PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE CENTRAL
The top two go head-to-head with hosts Biggleswade Town two points ahead having played two games fewer than Bedford Town. The title race is still wide open, though, as only five points separate the whole top five. The hosts were frustrated to see Saturday’s game at Welwyn Garden City postponed as they looked to bounce straight back from defeat in their previous game at home to Cirencester Town, whilst Bedford Town’s last-minute home loss at the hands of Waltham Abbey on Saturday was their fourth reverse in their last five games.
