PITCHING IN SOUTHERN LEAGUE | TUESDAY REVIEW

A look at the evening's action

Tuesday’s action in the Pitching In Southern League Premier South saw Gosport Borough strengthen their position in second place with a 2-1 away win at Tiverton Town.

A quickfire brace at the start of the second period from Gerson Da Costa Ramos proved to be the difference as Joe Parker grabbed what proved to be a consolation goal for the home side.

Also winning away was the in-form Dorchester Town as they continued their climb up the table with a 2-1 triumph at Sholing. Will Fletcher and Jordan Ngalo put them in control early on and although Dan Mason pulled a goal back on the hour, it was not enough.

This result combined with Hayes & Yeading United’s much-needed 1-0 home success against Basingstoke Town means that Sholing drop into the relegation zone. A first half strike from Amos Nasha was enough to give Andy Leese his first win as Hayes & Yeading boss.

Poole Town came back from a goal down early on to beat Winchester City 2-1. Ik Hill put the visitors in front only for a goal in each half from Tobias Holmes to give the hosts a precious three points.

The evening’s other game saw Harrow Borough beat Plymouth Parkway 3-1. Goals from Lonit Talla, Excellence Muhemba and Jack Tutton in the opening exchanges of the second period put Borough in command as Shane White notched a late consolation effort.

Over in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central, Champions, Needham Market, went down 3-0 at home to a Stamford outfit who are still eying a place in the play-offs. Lee Shaw opened the scoring and then after the break, Rhys Hilton and a second from Shaw added to the lead.

The other two games finished level as Kettering Town and Leiston shared four goals, whilst Stourbridge’s home encounter with Leamington ended one apiece. At Kettering, Addillanie Yussuf gave the home side an early lead only for two goals in quick succession just before the break from Ashley Boatswain and Jamar Loza to turn the scoreline on its head. Bruno Andrade restored parity eight minutes from time.

Meanwhile, Henry Landers gave visitors Leamington an early lead at Amblecote but that was cancelled out with just over 20 minutes to go by Niall Flint. The draw sees the Brakes inside the play-off zone by a point.

There was late drama at Mousehole in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South as they conceded two stoppage time goals to lose 4-3 at the hands of Melksham Town.

A goal within the opening two minutes from Hayden Turner set the Cornish outfit on their way and the lead was doubled soon afterwards by Mark Goldsworthy. The visitors were able to hit back straight away through Henry Sady and then Sam Hendy equalised just past the hour. Turner restored the home side’s lead only for Luke Ballinger and Ben Brooks to find the net in stoppage time to nick al three points.

Leapfrogging over Mousehole were Malvern Town as they made the long trip to Bashley and secured a 2-1 triumph despite falling behind to Ed Hodge’s opener for the hosts. Goals from Samson Hewett and Jack Watts turned the scoreline on its head and kept the Hillsiders’ play-off hopes alive.

Exmouth Town came home with a good 2-0 success from their trip to Westbury United. First half efforts from Ben Steer and Aarron Denny gave the Devon outfit the victory over opponents who sit just one place below them.

There were also three games in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central where Welwyn Garden City moved to just one place out of the play-off zone thanks to a hard-earned 2-1 triumph over Hadley. Cyrus Babaie-Gumbs opened the scoring early on and then Emmanuel Yeboah doubled the advantage midway through the opening period. Luke Alfano hit a late consolation for the visitors.

Kings Langley recovered from a heavy defeat in their last game by going to Leighton Town and winning 1-0 with Jordan Parkes getting the all-important goal with just under quarter-of-an-hour to go.

The other game of the evening saw Thame United keep their survival hopes alive with a 3-0 victory over North Leigh as Finlay Murray set them on their way before late strikes from Harry Alexander and Louis Fountain added some gloss to the scoreline.
