The top two in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South both battled out hard-earned 1-0 wins.
On Friday evening, Sam Meakes’ first half goal saw Frome Town overcome play-off hopefuls, Bishops Cleeve, and then on Saturday, it took a Matt Neale goal on the half-hour mark to secure victory at Willand Rovers, in what was Ryan Guppy’s testimonial weekend.
Cribbs had a goal in first half stoppage time from Aysa Corrick to thank for their 1-0 triumph over Exmouth Town, whilst Bristol Manor Farm swept aside Westbury United with a 4-0 away win thanks to goals from Daniel Dodimead, Aron Robbins, Ben Bament and Olly Woodhouse.
Moving into the play-off places is Larkhall Athletic who had a Matt Bowman goal to thank for a 1-0 success at Paulton Rovers who are running out of games to save themselves from relegation.
Both Evesham United and Mousehole kept their play-off dreams alive with good wins. For Evesham, they went to Tavistock and came home 3-1 victors with Aidan Clark setting them on their way in the first half. A leveller early in the second half from Liam Prynn gave the hosts hope, but that was extinguished by goals from Amer Awadh and Aaron Heap.
Meanwhile, Mousehole returned to winning ways by beating Malvern Town 3-0. Jack Calver opened the scoring and then three minutes later Hayden Turner added a second from the penalty spot. Mitch Beardmore rounded things off with a third deep into stoppage time at the end.
A busy week which saw them face no fewer than four games in seven days ended with Bashley winning 3-1 away at Bideford AFC. Lewis Ross set them on their way with an 11th minute goal only for Matt Buchan to level on the half-hour mark. Ross restored the lead for his side early in the second period and then Jamie Johnston sealed the win as the clock ticked down.
The day’s other game saw Melksham Town secure a 4-0 victory over Bemerton Heath Harlequins. Ben Brooks and Sam Hendy put them two goals to the good at the break before Elliot Haffenden helped himself to a second half brace.
