WALTON & HERSHAM | NEW LIFE

The experienced Adam Mekki is embracing his new Southern League challenge

There has been plenty of experience added to the Pitching In Southern League Premier South after Walton & Hersham completed the signing of Adam Mekki.

The attacking midfielder boasts over 60 EFL outings as well as more than 200 National League appearances to his name following a career that has taken in the likes of Aldershot, Barnet, Tranmere Rovers, Bromley and Bath City, amongst others.

He is one of a number of astute signings by the Swans as they look to make up for the disappointment of last season where they just missed out on a place in the play-offs.

“I am really looking forward to the season starting and seeing the back of pre-season,” he told us with a wry smile. “This is a new-look team with high aspirations and a steely determination to achieve things, so it’s been like a breath of fresh air coming here.

“I had experience of this level whilst on loan at Bracknell Town last season, so I know how competitive it is and what a good standard there is across the League.

“There are only two promotion places up for grabs, so that makes it tricky, but we are ready for the challenge.

“We’ve got some really talented players here; it’s predominantly a young team with a few experienced heads added into the mix, so it is exciting what we can achieve together.

“The way things have gone for me over the past couple of seasons, I just hope that I can stay injury-free and play as many games as possible.

“When you are younger, it’s almost a given that you can play 30-40 games per season and as such that gives you a platform to set personal targets. I just want to be able to get regular game time and be able to pass on my experience to those around me.

“I’ve played in League Two and a lot of football at National League level; it’s been one hell of a ride and I wish it could continue forever. I am looking forward to this next chapter in the Southern League.”

Walton & Hersham start the season with an away trip to last season’s play-off finalists, AFC Totton.
