The new Royston Town home shirt has certainly captured the imagination after it was launched this week.
The design is inspired by the cave carvings that were discovered in Royston Cave in 1792.
The captivating and mysterious patterns are believed to be linked to the Order of the Knights Templar, which had a mission to protect pilgrims in the Holy Land, and are thought to have used the cave as a secret meeting place.
“It’s not just about looking good on the pitch, it’s about celebrating what makes Royston special,” Chairman, Steve Jackson, told the media. “We believe that this shirt will not only be a source of great pride for our players and supporters, but also spark interest in the town’s fascinating history.
“The design pays homage to a local landmark that is steeped in mystery, sparking conversation and igniting curiosity about the rich heritage of Royston.”
The exact origins and the date of the cave remains unknown, but it is believed to have been carved from chalk bedrock sometime in the medieval period.
"We were thrilled when Royston Town FC approached us about the proposed shirt design,” said the cave’s manager, Emma Shaw. "It is a wonderful way to celebrate the unique heritage of Royston Cave."
The shirts will be worn when The Crows get their Pitching In Southern League Premier Central campaign underway with a home game against Barwell on Saturday, August 10th.
