MELKSHAM TOWN | WITT AND WISDOM

Positive start to the season for Kyle Witt and his club

A sweet strike from Kyle Witt proved to be a fitting way to settle Saturday’s Emirates FA Cup first round qualifying clash between Pitching In Southern League Division One South rivals, Bideford AFC and Melksham Town.

Witt’s goal and energetic Man of the Match display was enough to send the Wiltshire visitors through to a home tie with Banbury United in the next round.

“I was absolutely buzzing to get the goal to send us through,” he told us. “The boys fully deserved it; we worked hard out there and to get through to the next round with this group of players is fantastic.

“We’ve got a home tie against opponents from the level above to look forward to in the next round, so we’ll certainly be looking to show what we are capable of in that one.

“The FA Cup is obviously such a huge competition to be involved in and you feel that every time you step onto the pitch in these games, everyone raises their game.

“This season couldn’t have started any better, to be honest. Personally, I have five goals from eight games now and the team really is firing. Everything has come together nicely and we’re unbeaten so far, which is giving us plenty of confidence and belief.

“There are no easy games, be it in the FA Cup, FA Trophy or in the League; whether you are at home or away, at this level you have to battle for absolutely everything. You can never be complacent or else you will be punished, it’s as simple as that.

“As a team we feel that we can be right up there this season. We’re strong all over the pitch and growing as a unit with each game that we play.

“My personal target is always to hit the 20-goal mark, that hasn’t changed, and I just want to make as many contributions as I can and get as many minutes under my belt as possible because nothing beats being out there in the thick of the action.”

Melksham Town turn their attention to the Isuzu FA Trophy at the weekend as they face a first round qualifying tie away at a Helston Athletic outfit who have also started the campaign brightly.
