Despite seeing a four-game unbeaten League run come to an end last weekend, there is plenty of cause for optimism at Stotfold.
The Pitching In Southern League Division One Central club are now looking up the table rather than over their shoulders as we head into a busy schedule of fixtures.
A regular name on the scoresheet recently has been that of Haroon Meriai who is playing football with a smile on his face.
“I am enjoying my football very much at the moment,” he told us. “I’m happy with my form and being able to make a difference with goals and assists to get us moving up the table.
“We had a rocky start, but we’ve got a great group here and we’ve all stuck together and never let the morale in the changing room drop, which has been instrumental for us.
“The support I’ve received and the trust to express myself on the pitch has been reflected in my recent performances. I can’t thank everyone at the club enough and I remain focussed on showing my appreciation through what I do on the pitch to help us move in the right direction.
“It’s a tough League this season. Everyone is capable of beating each other, which makes it much more unpredictable, so preparation for every game has to be right or you will get found out.
“There’s a nice mix of experience and exciting young talent throughout the League, so it makes for good entertainment for the fans.
“A busy schedule lies ahead as we move towards December. There are plenty of points to play for and I can see no reason why we can’t be one of those teams pushing to get into the play-offs and fight for promotion.
“I always set my targets high as it gives me something to stay hungry for. I have five goals to my name at the moment but it would be nice to get into the top five scorers in this League by the end of the season whilst at the same time help the club challenge at the right end of the table.”
Saturday sees Stotfold start a run of three successive games on the road with a trip to North Leigh.
