There were certainly a few heads that were turned with Plymouth Parkway’s 6-0 victory over high-flying Gloucester City at the weekend.
What made the result even more special was that all six of the goals were scored by one player, Mitchel Beardmore, an outstanding feat at any level of football.
The 20 year-old, who is on loan at the Pitching In Southern League Premier South club from Exeter City, scored twice in the first half and then added another four after the break to complete a memorable afternoon for him and his team.
“This is the first time I have scored six in a game at any level,” he told us. “It’s something that’s going to stay with me forever.
“I was in disbelief at the end, to be honest. We went into the game expecting it to be a tough, close-fought affair against strong opposition, but to come away with a 6-0 win and for me to score all six was beyond my wildest dreams.
“I’ve had so many messages of congratulations from family and friends, which I am truly grateful for.
“I’ll get the headlines but this really was a team effort; the lads all performed superbly throughout the game and now it means that we go into what is a busy period full of confidence and belief.
“This is one of the best times of the season for me with so many games coming up, which I am really buzzing for. After Saturday, I am so excited for the next match to come around now and hopefully carry on from where I left off!
“The festive period is always a special time to play football as there is a nice atmosphere to the games.”
The victory was the Devon outfit’s fourth of the season and it has seen them win 6-0 and 5-0 in their last two home encounters, so their sights are set up the table as we enter the festive period.
“I think that as a team we can be proud of how far we have come since the start of the season,” added Beardmore. “We made a slow start where the results would just not come for us.
“But we’ve stuck together and have come through it stronger. The performances that we have been putting in are now starting to get the results that they deserve.
“We can take this strong mindset forward now into the rest of the season. We have proved what we are capable of and now we have to be able to do it on a consistent basis.
“I can personally reflect on what has been an enjoyable time here; I am definitely developing as both a player and as a person. Playing in various positions has made me have to adapt and bring different skills to my game, which has helped me develop massively.
“I am always trying to push myself to the next level and the way to do that is by playing regular competitive games and putting in a consistent level of performance. I am excited to see what the New Year brings.”
Parkway head to Frome Town, who sit just one place below them, on Boxing Day before hosting Havant & Waterlooville on December 28th and Tiverton Town on New Year’s Day. The festive period comes to a conclusion at Basingstoke Town on January 4th.
The Southern League would like to congratulate Mitchel Beardmore on his scoring feat at the weekend.
