It was the perfect start to 2025 for Harborough Town as they made it two wins and a draw from their festive games with victory over Pitching In Southern League Premier Central leaders, Kettering Town.
The 2-1 win takes them to the 30-point mark and saw Ben Stephens make it three goals from the last two games following his match-winning brace.
“It was a pleasing performance to start the year from the team and myself,” Stephens told us. “We haven’t looked back since the second half at Barwell on Boxing Day with two and-a-half really impressive displays.
“It’s been a great return from our games over the Christmas period and now we want to be able to continue it into the New Year and see where it takes us.
“That’s the beauty of this League, it’s so close that you never know. We have proven we can beat the best that this League has to offer so that will give us the confidence and belief to take forward.
“Personally I just want to be involved in as many goals as I can to help the team win football matches.
“The season has been a bit up-and-down over the first half of the campaign. The FA Cup run was fantastic, but that’s gone now and we have to concentrate on moving up the table and adding to our points’ tally.
“This is a strong League, much stronger than when I was last in it a couple of years ago. There are no easy games and everyone is more than capable of beating each other on their day. We have some top players and top managers operating in this League and it just makes it so strong and exciting!
“I’m really looking forward to what the second half of the season holds in store.”
The Bees go to Stamford AFC on Saturday. Their hosts are six points above them and sit just one place outside the play-off zone.
