The PST Sport Club of the Month Awards for December 2024 have been announced.
In the Pitching In Southern League Premier South, the winners are Merthyr Town.
The month started with a hard-fought 3-2 victory at Taunton Town. It was a game which saw them race into a two-goal lead within the opening 20 minutes only to be pegged back to 2-2 by half-time. A goal early in the second period from Kane Simpson proved to be the winner.
Things were a little more straightforward in their next outing as they went to Poole Town and came home 6-1 victors. They didn’t have things all their own way, though, and actually trailed at half-time before a second half hat-trick from Lewys Twamley, a brace from Ricardo Rees and a further strike from Kobi Preston-Watkins saw them add to their impressive goalscoring tally.
Another game on the road, this time to Hungerford Town, once more saw them behind at the break only for Cole Jarvis, Tom Handley and Lewys Twamley to give them a deserved victory by three goals to one.
The month came to a close back on home soil as they beat Walton & Hersham 5-2 with Lewys Twamley helping himself to another hat-trick alongside two goals from Kane Simpson. This victory saw them end the year proudly at the top of the table.
The Pitching In Southern League Premier Central accolade has gone to Bedford Town.
They have adapted to life at the higher level well since promotion at the end of last term and they got the month underway with a 4-2 triumph over Lowestoft Town in a game which saw James Clifton help himself to a hat-trick as Leon Lobjoit got the other goal.
Boxing Day saw them come from behind to beat Hitchin Town as Lewis Green drew them level before Leon Lobjoit hit what proved to be the decisive goal with around 20 minutes to go.
The year came to an end with an impressive 3-1 victory over fellow high-flyers Halesowen Town. An early goal from Ryan Blake set them on their way, but that was cancelled out towards the end of the opening period. An Ed Panter brace in the second half ensured that they ended what has been a good year for them on a high.
Taking the Pitching In Southern League Division One South honour is Westbury United.
A Tuesday evening trip down to Mousehole is not for the feint-hearted but they faced the challenge head-on to start the month with an excellent 2-0 away win. Joe Beardwell and Dan Restorick grabbed the goals.
A comprehensive 5-0 victory over Cribbs followed as Josh Jenkins weighed in with a hat-trick alongside late goals from Ryan Bole and Aaron Witchell to add further gloss to the scoreline.
Two more goals from Josh Jenkins earned them another away triumph, this time at Tavistock AFC as they emerged 2-1 winners despite falling behind.
Having lost 2-0 at Melksham Town on Boxing Day, they responded well two days later by beating an in-form Bemerton Heath Harlequins 3-0 as Joe Beardwell bagged a brace and Bevan Cross completed the scoring as the clock ticked down.
Over in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central, Berkhamsted once more took the accolade.
The League leaders started the month with a 5-2 away win at North Leigh in a game which saw Luke Andrews score twice and JJ Lacey, Bernard Christie and Louie Collier also get their names onto the scoresheet.
Another four away goals were chalked up at Kidlington in their next outing as they triumphed 4-1. Luke Andrews bagged another brace as Matty Bateman and Rayan Clarke notched the others.
It was the same scoreline on Boxing Day as they headed to Aylesbury United. Adam Watkins and JJ Lacey put them two goals to the good and although the hosts pulled one back just before the break, Tom Newman and Matty Bateman ensured that they added another three points to their ever-increasing tally.
The month ended back on home soil with a 2-0 victory over Thame United as first half strikes from Matty Bateman and Louie Collier saw them home and dry without too many problems to end the year on a winning note.
We congratulate the four winners:
Premier Central – Bedford Town (3.00ppg)
Premier South – Merthyr Town (3.000ppg)
Division One Central – Berkhamsted (3.000ppg)
Division One South – Westbury United (2.400ppg – win on goal difference)
