ISUZU FA TROPHY | TWIN TOWN TARGET

Biggleswade Town and Chertsey Town fly the Southern League flag in round four

Weather-permitting, both Biggleswade Town and Chertsey Town will be representing the Southern League in the fourth round of the Isuzu FA Trophy on Saturday.

Whilst the Waders have found life tough in the Premier Central following promotion at the end of last term, they have enjoyed their run in the FA Trophy, which saw them start with a 1-0 victory at Marlow before disposing of Potters Bar Town by two goals to nil and then a dramatic 5-4 triumph at Coleshill Town to set up a showdown with AFC Totton, which they won 3-2 on penalties.

They now face a home tie against an Oxford City outfit who were relegated into the Vanarama National League North for this season and sit in the lower half of the table.

Meanwhile, Chertsey Town have made a solid start to life in the Premier South following promotion at the end of last term. They travel to face an Aldershot Town side who are in the lower part of the Vanarama National League table.

The Curfews’ run started with a penalty shoot-out victory over Billericay Town before a commanding 3-0 triumph at Uxbridge followed, which in turn led to a hard-earned 3-2 away win at higher-level Bath City to set up a mouth-watering home tie against Dagenham & Redbridge, which they won 1-0.

There is an extra reason for Bill Montague to be looking forward to taking on The Shots.

“I spent most of my junior years with Aldershot Town, so it will be great to go back there,” the 24 year-old midfielder told us. “I am really looking forward to the game and the challenge that it will present.

“The run that we’ve had in this competition has been fantastic with big wins against Bath City and Dagenham & Redbridge from the levels above us, so hopefully we can add another scalp.

“In the League we’ve had mixed results yet we are still in contention for the play-offs, a place in which is the aim for everyone across the club this season.

“We’ve a fantastic group of players here; we haven’t had much luck in terms of injuries but the lads who have stepped in have done a great job, so there is strength in depth within the squad.

“Hopefully we can finish as high as possible and also add some more adventures to this FA Trophy run!”

The Southern League sends our best wishes to both clubs and hope that they will continue to do us proud.

There will be a 9.45am pitch inspection ahead of Biggleswade Town’s game, whilst for Chertsey Town, there will be an 11.30am pitch inspection at the EBB Stadium.
