It’s full steam ahead for Barton Rovers. Tuesday evening saw them move into third place in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central table following a 4-2 away win at local rivals, AFC Dunstable.
It represents a big climb for a team that has got themselves back on track after being bottom of the table during the early weeks of the campaign.
“We didn’t start the season how we would have liked to,” admitted summer signing, Markel Cousins. “We suffered a few heavy defeats early on, but it just shows the character that we have here.
“There are some strong personalities in the changing room and we’ve been able to bounce back and get into the position that we now find ourselves in.”
Cousins weighed in with two goals on Tuesday to help his side pick up a big three points.
“To beat your local rivals is always nice,” Cousins added. “The game was personal for a lot of our lads and we knew it wasn’t going to be easy.
“But we worked hard, stuck to our game plan and got the job done. Of course it was nice to get my name on the scoresheet, but the most important thing was to leave with the three points.
“It strengthens our position within the top five in what is a tough League. No game is easy, as we know from earlier in the season, and I think that experience has made us even more switched on to each challenge that we face.
“Every team is capable of taking points from each other, but our focus is firmly fixed on what we do.
“We’re giving it everything we’ve got; we’ve put ourselves into a good position in third place in the table as well as being in the semi-final of the Bedfordshire Senior Cup, so there is plenty for us to look forward to and aim for.
“If we stay focussed and keep doing the things that are serving us well, I am sure the train will keep rolling on and who knows where it can take us!”
The next destination on the journey is Leighton Town on Saturday.
