It sounds like a new TV detective series, Hedley and Hayes. But this particular dynamic duo are on a mission to help take Hadley to promotion.
The Pitching In Southern League Division One Central outfit head to Berkhamsted on Wednesday evening in the play-offs knowing that despite finishing the season 14 points behind their hosts, anything can happen at this dramatic stage of the season.
“I am really excited, it’s going to be a good game of football and I just want to get out there now,” admitted talented defender, Hedley Ogbebor. “It’s been a really memorable season for me, my first proper season in men’s football.
“There have been so many positive moments, from our run to the third round proper of the Isuzu FA Trophy, where we beat AFC Telford United along the way, to our battle to make the play-off places amidst some strong competition.
“I’ve certainly learned a lot having played over 40 games and now it all comes down to this. Yes, we finished quite a few points behind Berkhamsted, but anything can happen now, it’s all down to who’s better on the day.
“We know what we’re capable of and we’ve shown it on occasions over the course of the season. We’ve come through some tough games this season and we look forward to the challenge that this one will present.”
Another regular member of the team this season is Billy Hayes, who is approaching half-a-century of outings in all competitions this term.
“It’s been a long season, but a really positive one,” he added. “The team has been amazing and stuck together throughout the campaign.
“We’ve done really well; we suffered a bit of a hangover after our FA Trophy run came to an end. It took a lot out of us, but we managed to recover and go again at the business end of the season.
“To secure our place in the top five in what is a really competitive League is a great achievement. The games have come at us thick and fast, but now just final push is required. Hopefully we’ll have an extra play-off game to look forward to after this one as well as a local Cup Final, so there is plenty to be excited about.”
Can Hedley and Hayes solve the case to find their way to the play-off final on Monday? Only time will tell, stay tuned…
