Kettering Town play host to AFC Telford United in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central play-off final on Monday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).
From a campaign that has produced plenty of memories, central defender, Lewis White, is hoping that there is still one more to come.
“There have been some real highs this season, memories that will stay with me forever,” he told us. “The FA Cup run was fantastic to be part of and in the League, other than a dip in form just after Christmas, we’ve performed consistently well.
“Now we just need one final big performance to make that last memory of the season. We know that if we play like we can, we’ll give ourselves every chance of being successful.
“I’ve tried to keep my emotions in check since the semi-final win on Wednesday evening. I’ve done my best to relax and recover from what was a tense and mentally tough game and then on matchday I’ll be back switched on again and ready for battle.”
Not surprisingly, given that Wednesday’s semi-final against Harborough Town pitted two of the best defences in the Premier Central against each other, 120 minutes of football failed to produce a goal and so it went to a penalty shoot-out.
“It was a great team performance,” White added. “We were the better side over the course of the game and whilst a penalty shoot-out is a cruel way to lose, we deserved to make it through.
“The character we showed in extra-time and then throughout the shoot-out saw us get it over the line. I enjoyed the battle out there and thrived on the pressure. Now I cannot wait for Monday’s game to come around.
“It’s been a strong League this season, so for us to reach this stage has taken a lot of effort and hard work. We know that AFC Telford United will be tough opponents and we’re going to have to be switched on, but we’re ready to face the challenge that they will present to us head-on.”
