There’s a Worcestershire derby at Evesham United as they host Malvern Town in the Pitching In Southern League Division One South play-off final on Monday (kick-off 3pm).
Amongst the goals in their 4-1 come-from-behind victory over Exmouth Town in Wednesday’s semi-final was Lewis Middleton, who made a massive impact having come off the bench for the second half.
“We started well on Wednesday and controlled most of the first half,” he told us. “They took the lead just before the break and we were unlucky to go in at half-time trailing.
“The Gaffer decided to bring me on for the second half and I was able to get in the right place to knock the ball down for Levi [Steele] to get us back on level terms and then a minute or so later I was able to put us ahead.
“After that we didn’t look back and after Andre Wright added a third, I was able to complete the scoring late on with my second goal. It was an amazing night and to be able to celebrate it with our fantastic home support topped it off for me.
“I can’t wait for Monday now! It’s going to be a tough game against solid opponents who don’t give much away. Like us, they go into it in good form, but we have home advantage and we’ll be looking to make that count.
“We’ve all worked so hard to get here. Obviously we’re gutted that we just came up short for the title, but this offers us another chance to secure our place in Step 3 for next season.
“I’ve had a bit of a strange season since arriving in November. I would have liked to have had more game time, but I believe that I have performed well every time that I’ve come on. The more minutes I get, the more I will improve as a player.
“Things are moving in the right direction; I’ve enjoyed the season, the standard at this level is high and with support of my team-mates and the management, I have really benefitted. A great way to show my appreciation would be to help us get the win on Monday.”
