BERKHAMSTED | IN A GOOD PLACE

The play-offs were a breeze for Chris Devane's side

There was no messing about from Berkhamsted in the Pitching In Southern League Division One Central play-offs.

Having breezed past Hadley in the semi-final by five goals to nil, they repeated the feat in the final as Flackwell Heath succumbed by the same scoreline in front of a record home crowd of just under 2,000.

“Proud wouldn’t even cover how I’m feeling right now,” manager, Chris Devane, told us. “To score ten unanswered goals over two games is a phenomenal effort.

“With the ability the group has, we very nearly underachieved this season; the lads know that themselves, but we managed to get the job done with two commanding and convincing displays.

“There was a lot more depth to Division One Central this season compared to previous years. Real Bedford and ourselves were the best two teams, I think that’s fair to say, but most teams on their day were very good.

“I feel that we are in a much better place to take on the challenge that Step 3 has to offer this time around. Admittedly it’s still a tough test ahead, but we’re in a stronger position both on and off the field to give it our best shot and we’re looking forward to what’s in store.

“First and foremost we have to establish ourselves as a Step 3 club and then take things from there.

“We’ve had a lot of positives; to see so many people at both of our play-off games tells you everything about the potential we have here.”
